Camp Coaches

Camp Director:

Bill Brist - Bill is in his second year at the University of Great Falls (Great Falls, Montana) as the Head Cross Country and Track & Field Coach. Before his tenure began for the Argos, he was the Boys and Girls cross country coach at Whitefish High School. This was a position he held for eight years, from 2004 through 2011. In that time, the Lady Bulldogs have won four State A XC Championships, while the boys achieved two third place State finishes, and placed second at State in 2010. Prior to coaching at Whitefish, Bill coached 4 NJCAA All Americans and one NJCAA National champion in cross county during his six years at Flathead Valley Community College. He began his coaching with the Flathead High School program as an assistant, a position he held for five seasons. Bill won the 1983 USA National Junior 8 km Cross Country title and competed in the World Junior XC Championships in Gateshead, England. While a collegian, when ran for Montana State University, he was invited to participate in a Junior Elite Distance Running Camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Camp Manager:

Sara Brist - Sara is in her second year as the Head Cross Country coach, for both boys and girls, at Whitefish High School. She was an assistant at WHS for eight years prior to taking the head coaching position. In her first year, the Bulldog Boys won the Montana Class A State team title, the first ever boys XC title in the school's history. She takes care of the day to day operations of the camp, organizing cabin and van assignments, preparing meals, and assisting with sessions. Sara also manages all camp applications.

Featured Guest Coach:

Pat Tyson - Pat is in his fourth year as the Head Track & Field / Cross Country Coach at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Prior to taking over for the Zags of the Division 1 West Coast Conference, Pat was the Head Coach of legendary South Eugene High School and spent the 2006-2007 season as head distance running coach at the University of Kentucky, coaching the distance running program in Lexington. He also previously spent time as the head coach of a perennial power boys program at Mead (Washington) High School. As one of the nation's most well-respected prep distance coaches, Tyson spent almost two decades building Mead HS into a nationally dominant group. Beginning in 1986, Tyson's Mead harrier squads amassed an amazing dual record of 145-6, and his distance runners combined for 26 individual state titles (TF/XC) and 12 state cross country team titles. At the elite prep level, he has guided harrier teams to seven top-five national rankings. In the fall of 2004, his squad placed third in the Nike Team Nationals in Portland, and was a surprising fourth again in '05. Individually, he has guided nine runners to the Foot Locker National Championships - tied for the second-most of any program nationally.

Other Staff - In the role of camp counselor, several of the camp's former participants will be back to help with the campers during the runs, and with several of the camp activities. Many of these runners are now competing on college cross country and track teams.
